Ervaringsdeskundigheid in beeld

Naast fotografe is Ilvy ook GZ-psychologe en werkt bij een GGZ-instelling in Maastricht. Ze werkt hier sinds een paar jaar ook samen met ervaringsdeskundigen. Deze samenwerking is aanleiding geweest om dit foto-project op te gaan zetten. Doel van het project is om psychiatrie vanuit een positieve invalshoek te benaderen. Verslaving, depressie, PTSS enzovoorts, het zijn ziektebeelden waar men zich vaak voor schaamt, waar anderen negatieve associaties mee hebben, wat anderen doet afschrikken, waar dus nog steeds stigma’s op berusten. Ervaringswerkers zijn echter hét bewijs dat dit niet terecht is. Zij putten uit hun ervaringen juist kracht en kunnen anderen op een unieke manier helpen. In mijn opinie is het ervaringswerk daarom een grote meerwaarde binnen de geestelijke gezondheidszorg. Tijdens het maken van het portret laat Ilvy hen denken aan de gebeurtenis die doorslaggevend is geweest voor hun keuze om ervaringsdeskundige te worden.

In addition to being a photographer, Ilvy is also a GZ psychologist and works at a GGZ institution in Maastricht. She has also been working here for a few years with experts by experience. This collaboration was the reason to set up this photo project. The aim of the project is to approach psychiatry from a positive angle. Addiction, depression, PTSD and so on, these are syndromes that people are often ashamed of, with which others have negative associations, which scare others, which are still stigmatic. However, experience workers are proof that this is not justified. On the contrary, they draw strength from their experiences and can help others in a unique way. In my opinion, the experiential work is therefore of great added value within mental health care. While making the portrait, Ilvy reminds them of the event that was decisive in their choice to become an expert by experience.
